(Not all of the illustrations are finished, but the script and score are performance-ready.) Twimfina is a musical about a young woman (Twimfina) from St. Louis who forms a penpal correspondence with a young man (Guru) who lives in the hostile country of Enemia. Instead of enrolling in classes at the beginning of her freshman year, Twimfina defies a travel ban and undertakes the dangerous journey to Enemia to be with her penpal boyfriend. She wants to help him teach in the schools there. Penpals are known to sometimes leave certain facts out of their letters. Guru has left out some whoppers. He never told her that he is a paraplegic. He never told her that he and his father are dirt poor and live in a metal shed in a junkyard. He never told her that everybody in their little town hates Americans ever since a destructive missile attack years earlier. He never told her that he had been rejected from teaching in the public schools because of a childhood injury that had left much of his body paralyzed. Twimfina grew up in a community of science teachers (as told in the book Arent We the Lucky Ones). She has a perspective and an openness that fitted nicely in her St. Louis commune. But how nicely will it fit in Enemia? The play is divided into 21 segments plus an afterword. Its run time is about 2 hours 20 minutes. There is quite a bit of choral music, so more than 2-dozen singers are required (including 6 middle-school students, at least a dozen young adults and at least a dozen older adults). Songs Include: Out of this Mud Go Where I Wanna Go Brick after Brick Do What We Do Keep Us Open, Keep Us Free My Garden, It Doesnt Have Weeds One World, One Song (aka Peace Machine) Stranger in the Ocean Live, Let Live Animals of the Planet Earth The World Is My Family, Im Not Afraid This Happening Must Happen Stay With Me I am a Scientist Good Guys with Guns Yes and No Nonviolence / One by One Peace To You From Language #2 Birthday Echoes Jeeno Casino Come Live With Us
